The Story of Oggie

Oggie is a green little frog straight out of an old underground storybook. He left his woeful past behind, found a home among the trees and flowers, and gorged himself on the most delicious fruits he'd ever eaten.

His whole philosophy fits in a speech bubble: "Life is good!" It's cozy, it's weird, it's a little existential — exactly the energy a memecoin needs.

"Mmm... gobble gobble... slurp... this is the most delicious food I have ever eaten!"

Where the aesthetic comes from

Matt Furie created Pepe the Frog in 2005 for his comic Boy's Club. The underground 1960s comics of Robert B. Crumb — along with various pop-culture styles — influenced Furie's overall artistic aesthetic.

But Pepe himself was an original creation — not an adaptation of a specific character named "Oggie." Our froggy hero is his own weird little storybook creature, tipping his hat to that scrappy, hand-inked underground lineage.

In his own words, Furie lists his loves: "I love The Far Side, Charles Addams, Edward Gorey, Garfield, R. Crumb, etc."
